Planning with Intention
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a planner; not just in the narrow sense of ticking boxes, but as a way of living with intention. Over the years, I’ve developed the habit of mapping out my life: reflecting honestly, defining goals clearly, and documenting them consistently.
This recurring practice has brought me:
- Clarity in confusion
- Momentum during inertia
- Peace in uncertain times
Planning gives you structure. But life rewards motion.
A Habit of Conscious Living
It all started with a Five-Year Plan in 2004. I was in my mid-20s; was moving to UK from Singapore, I was ambitious, hopeful, and determined to take charge of my life. My goals spanned physical health, meaningful work, financial freedom, education, family connection, and social impact.
That early commitment taught me:
- Fulfilment doesn’t happen by accident
- Conscious living is rooted in clarity
- Opportunities become visible when your intentions are clear
Planning with Purpose, Adapting with Grace
I revisit my life plan every few years. Not to judge myself, but to realign. A recent review of my early plans brought deep satisfaction. Dreams like living in a beautiful home, building a meaningful career, and creating as an artist have all materialised already.
But more important than the goals achieved is the lesson learned:
When you move with intention, the world responds.
Planning isn’t about control. It’s about direction, about knowing what matters and remaining open to how it may unfold.
The Six Dimensions of a Fulfilled Life
Over the years, I’ve identified six key areas of life that deserve deliberate, ongoing planning. These aren’t “goals” only they are foundational pillars. When nurtured consistently, they create the architecture of a meaningful life.
- Health: The Foundation of Everything
Without health, every other ambition loses its edge. This isn’t just about appearance, it’s about energy, resilience, and mental strength.
What I plan for:
- Physical goals: strength, balance, endurance
- Rest and mental wellness routines
- A lifestyle built for longevity, not burnout
- Family: The Source of Belonging and Legacy
Success without deep relationships is empty. Families need intention and care to thrive.
What I prioritise:
- Being emotionally present for loved ones
- Creating shared rituals and memories
- Supporting their growth through patience and attention
- Talent and Creative Expression: Your Original Contribution
Everyone has something only they can contribute. Whether or not it pays the bills, using your talents adds meaning to life.
In my journey, this includes:
- Launching my artist identity and original music
- Blogging to share ideas and insight
- Developing businesses aligned with my values
Creative expressions turns experience into legacy.
- Career and Impact: From Professionalism to Purpose
Your career should be more than a job; it should be a platform for contribution and influence.
My focus:
- Evolving from execution to strategic leadership
- Becoming a thought leader in my space
- Aligning work with purpose and values
The real career journey is from relevance to resonance.
- Financial Independence: Freedom Through Discipline
Money is not the goal but freedom is. Planning your finances gives you options, peace, and the ability to act on your values.
What I plan for:
- Long-term saving and investing habits
- Diversified, tax-efficient assets
- Purpose driven income streams
Wealth should enable your life, not control it.
- Spiritual and Personal Growth: The Inner Framework
This is often overlooked, yet it holds everything together. Your spiritual health shapes how you navigate the rest of life.
Practices I follow:
- Studying sacred texts across traditions
- Daily reflection and stillness
- Gratitude, service, and humility
Your inner world determines the quality of your outer one.
Fulfilment Over Perfection
Planning doesn’t make life predictable. It makes it intentional.
There will be detours. I’ve had mine. Seasons of fatigue, confusion, and setback. But a well-grounded plan is an anchor, it is something to return to when life gets noisy.
Fulfilment isn’t found in flawless execution.
It’s found in alignment. When your actions reflect your values and your life reflects your potential.
So I continue to plan. I continue to adapt. I continue to move forward; not to control the future, but to meet it with open arms and a ready mind.
